- Anti-platelet aggregation agent

Aspirin Indications
A
• Chest pain suggestive of AMI

Aspirin Contraindications
A
- Active bleeding disorders
- Under 18 y/o (Reye’s syndrome)
- Pregnancy (D)
- Hypersensitivity

Aspirin Precaution
A
• Caution in patients who report allergies to any NSAID.

Aspirin Dosage
A
Adults: 324 mg PO
Peds: Do not give to children with an acute viral illness including varicella and influenza (Reye’s Syndrome)

Aspirin Onset/ Duration
A
- Onset: 15-30 minutes
* Duration: 4-6 hours

Aspirin Side effects
A
- GI Irritation (i.e. Heartburn)
- GI Bleeding
- N/V
- Hypersensitivity Reaction—bronchospasm, urticaria.
- Prolonged bleeding time

Aspirin Interactions
A
- When administered together, ASA and other anti-inflammatories may cause increased side effects, and increased blood levels of both drugs.
- Administration of ASA with antacids may reduce blood levels by reducing GI absorption.
