Calcium Chlorine Action
A
- Increase + inotropic and vasoconstrictive effects.
- Increase systemic arterial blood pressure
- It also appears to increase ventricular automaticity

A
- Hyperkalemia
- Hypermagnesemia
- Hypocalcemia (CCB OD)

Calcium Chlorine Contraindications
A
- Hypercalcemia
- Digitalis toxicity
- VF during resuscitation

Calcium Chlorine Precautions
A
- May induce digitalis toxicity in patients receiving digoxin
- Can cause tissue necrosis and sloughing
- Pregnancy (C)
- Respiratory disease
- Cor pulmonale
- Respiratory Failure

Calcium Chlorine Dosage
A
Adults:
• HyperK, Asystole/PEA w/hyperK, and CCB OD: 500-1000 mg SIVP.
Pediatrics:
• 20 mg/kg infused over 10 mi (no faster than 100 mg/min)
Max–1 g / dose

Calcium Chlorine Onset/ Duration
A
- Onset: 5-15 minutes
* Duration: Dose dependent (effects may persist for 4 hrs. after IV admin)

Calcium Chlorine Side Effects
A
- Metallic taste
- Burning
- “Heat waves”
- Bradycardia (may cause asystole)
- Hypotension
- Cardiac arrhythmias
- Increased digitalis toxicity
- Extravasation with necrosis and sloughing
- Vasospasm in coronary and cerebral arteries.
- N/V

Calcium Chlorine Interactions
A
- Precipitates with sodium bicarb, epi and K+
- When given to a patient on Digoxin, can cause elevated Digoxin levels and possibly digitalis toxicity
- May antagonize the effects of Verapamil
