Lab Spinal Plexuses Flashcards
Brachial plexus
•C5-T1
-nerves: musculocutaneous, axillary, median, radial, ulnar
•muscles of the skin, forearm, shoulder, hand
Cervical plexus
- C1-4
- phrenic nerve: diaphragm
- no never, but supplies skin of head neck and shoulder
The lumbosacral plexus consists of
•the lumbar plexus L1-4
And
•the sacral plexus L4-S4
Lumbar plexus
•L1-4
-nerves and body area:
•femoral: skin and muscles of hip and thigh
•obturator: muscles and skin of the medial thigh
Sacral plexus
•S1-4
•Sciatic nerve:
-tibial: posterior thigh, leg muscles and skin
-common peroneal: anterior lateral leg and foot, skin and muscles
Coccygeal plexus
- S5-C0
* coccygeal nerve: perineum of coccyx skin and muscles
There is no thoracic plexus, instead
•it acts as the muscles and skin between the ribs
Autonomic motor neurons include
•sympathetic
•parasympathetic
*control actions of the internal organs
Auto: sympathetic
- communicating rami
- superior and inferior cervical ganglia
- chain ganglia
- organ plexuses(heart, esophagus, stomach)
Auto: parasympathetic
- vagus nerve
* organ plexuses
Parasympathetic pathway
- originates in the cranial nerves (3,7,9,10) (sacral region)
- cell bodies of preganglionic neurons in brain stem, involved in activation if digestion, dedication urination etc
- vagus nerve
