Shave
Full thickness of dermis not required, low suspicion of melanoma
Excisional
Removal of entirety of large, deep lesions. 2-5mm margin of normal skin. Suspected melanoma
Punch
Core piece of tissue for sampling into deep dermis. Suture or secondary intention healing
Incisional
Small portion for pathology to determine if more needed
Mohs
Surgical technique for ensuring removal of entire basal or squamous cell removed.
Electrodesiccation
Electrical current to destroy tissue. Does not allow pathology assessment but can be used on benign and malignant
Cryotherapy
Liquid nitrogen to destroy tissue. Removal of benign and premalignant lesions. Causes hypopigmentation
Cryo- Indications
Wart removal, epithelial precancerous and non-cancerous lesions
Cryo- Application
Freeze, thaw 30-45 sec, refreeze. Repeat every 2-4 weeks for several cycles.
Cryo- Advers Effects
Hypopigementation in light skinned, hyper pigmentation in dark. Scarring-> keloids?
