A
  • physical activity - movement of the body, results in energy expenditure and increased physical fitness
  • active living - a lifestyle choice, integrate physical activity into everyday routines
  • exercise - planned, structure and repetitive bodily movements where objective is to maintain physical fitness
  • sport - rule governed, structured, competitive involving gross motor movements

31% of adults worldwide are insufficiently active, 3.2 million deaths per year are due to insufficient PA, it’s the 4th leading risk factor for global mortality

  • our built environment can help/hinder active lifestyles
  • for all round health benefits: exercising outdoors > exercising indoors
  • “green exercise” increases PA levels with lower levels of perceived exertion, increases stress reduction, mood and self esteem and perceived health (Gladwell et al, 2013)
