What happened after the July Days?

A

Kerensky took a lot of credit for putting down the uprising. He became the leader of the P.G. To tackle the problems of war, economy and Bolsheviks, he planned to restore discipline in the army. He wanted P.G to get support from conservatives. He appointed Kornilov as the new commander-in-chief.

A

Why did Kornilov get dismissed?

A

He was hard to control, wanted Kerensky to impose Martial law and break power of Soviets. This gained support from Middle class as they were worried about workers seizing territories. Kerensky saw this as a threat to his rule and dismissed Kornilov.

What did Kerensky do to stop the Revolt?

A

Kerensky allowed the Bolsheviks to arm themselves to fight against Kornilov. Bolsheviks took charge of armament and blocked Kornilov’s route to Petrograd. They also convinced Kornilov’s troops to stop and desert. He was afraid of Kornilov taking control of military. Kornilov was arrested on 1st September 1917.
