Why did the Bolsheviks set up the MRC?

A

The Bolsheviks set up the MRC to bring all soviet-supporting soldiers together in Petrograd before Kerensky sends out Bolshevik influenced armies out of Petrograd. Most regiments promised loyalty to the MRC.

What did Kerensky try to do after the Bolsheviks set up the MRC?

A

Kerensky ordered a crackdown on the Bolsheviks, he closed Bolshevik newspapers and blocked river crossings. Trotsky called this a counter-revolution and used the MRC to control of bridges and roads.

A

The Bolsheviks seized control of key areas during the 24-25th of October and Bolsheviks climbed through the windows of the Winter Palace and arrested members of the P.G. There was no opposition towards the Bolsheviks. Lenin then formed a Bolshevik government called the Council of People’s Commissars.

What were the reactions to the takeover?

A

Many people from the revolutionary parties left the Petrograd Soviet and complained that the Bolsheviks risked a civil war that would ruin Socialism and Russia. This left the Bolsheviks and the left-wing members in control of the Petrograd Soviet.
