Kidney cancer Flashcards
1
Q
3 types of kidney cancers
A
- Clear cell carcinoma
- Papillary renal cell carcinoma
- Chromophobe renal carcinoma
2
Q
Clear cell carcinoma
A
- Originates from epithelial cells of proximal convulated tubule
- Chromosome 2 VHL gene tumor supressor mutation - Von Lindau hippel disease - causes benign cysts and tumors to form
- Can invade renal vein and spread
- yellow-orange -gray
3
Q
Papillary renal carcinoma
A
- Forms within kidney tubules, within proximal or distal convulated tubule
- Hereditiary papillary renal carcinoma - MET gene mutation
- Less vibrant yellow-orange due to lower lipid content
4
Q
Chromophobe renal carcinoma
A
- Least common
- Intercalated cells of collecting duct
- Tumors have multiple losses of entire chromosomes
- Grossly tan brown morph
5
Q
Clincial manif
A
- Haematuria
- Palpable abdominal mass
- Flank pain
- Fever/weight loss
