- Hand hygiene! Use gloves!
- Use kidney bowl for gathering things.
- Prepare everything so it is easy to grab things with one hand.
- Clip the hair.
- Clean the punction site with antiseptic. Do not spray on the patient, use swabs! Let the skin
dry before punctioning the vein. - Do not touch the punction site after cleaning it!
- Open the syringe correctly, do not break through package.
- Connect the syringe to the needle following aseptic rules. Keep everything on clean surface!
- Turn the scale on the syringe towards you and make sure the hole in the needle is facing
upwards. Move the plunger to make sure it is moving freely. - Create the stasis with the thumb of the non-dominant hand.
- Insert the needle with the hole facing up.
- When the needle is in the vein, aspirate carefully. Let the blood flow into the syringe. - If there is no blood, carefully move the needle inwards or outwards. NB! Avoid poking in
different directions! - If blood is collected, release the stasis, remove the needle from the vein and place a clean
swab on the puncture site. Keep pressure on the puncture site until the bleeding stops. - Transfer blood to the tubes.
- Make sure the order of blood tubes is correct.
- Turn the tubes a few times after collecting the blood.
- Label the tubes!
