Collecting blood sample

1. Hand hygiene! Use gloves!
2. Use kidney bowl for gathering things.
   - Prepare everything so it is easy to grab things with one hand.
3. Clip the hair.
4. Clean the punction site with antiseptic. Do not spray on the patient, use swabs! Let the skin
   dry before punctioning the vein.
5. Do not touch the punction site after cleaning it!
6. Connect the needle with needle-holder. Keep everything on clean surface!
7. Tighten the tourniquet. Do not keep it tightened for too long!
8. Fixate the vein with your fingers and puncture it.
9. Make sure the order of blood tubes is correct.
10. Turn the tubes a few times after collecting the blood.
11. Release the tourniquet as soon as the sample is collected!
12. First remove the tube, then remove the needle from the vein.
13. Place a clean swab on the puncture site and tie it with self-adhesive bandage.
14. Label the tubes!

NB! It is not a mistake if you cannot get any „blood“ into the tubes. Follow the procedure as if there
was blood in tubes.
