Fight, Flight or Freeze Syndrome (F3)
This involves the three possible behavioral responses to a threat.
The mind and body are preparing the subject to respond to a perceived threat by mobilizing body resources to various systems and narrowly focusing attention to said threat.
Used to explain the process by which PDD works during an examination.
Simplest Reflex Arc
This is the process which occurs in the human body every time there is an outside stimulus.
Involves the Sympathetic Nervous System and Parasympathetic Nervous System for polygraph.
Hear the question through the ear.
Message sent to the brain.
Unable to act because of taking the examination.
Sympathetic Nervous System activated.
Reactions are observed in tracings.
Simplest Reflex Arc
Receptor
The sense organ that is receiving the stimulus.
Simplest Reflex Arc
Sensory Neurons
The pathway for the message to be sent to the central nervous system (brain & spinal cord).
Simplest Reflex Arc
Synapse
The evaluation of the received message.
Simplest Reflex Arc
Motor Neurons
These are attached to the muscles, causing a response and activates the sympathetic nervous system.
Simplest Reflex Arc
Effectors
The action which occurs or is caused.
Diastolic BP
The measurement of the pressure in the arteries when the heart rests between beats.
Systolic BP
The measurement of the pressure in the arteries when the blood is being forced through the blood vessels.
Systole
Contraction of the heart muscles which forces blood out of the chambers.
Diastole
Portion of the heartbeat cycle when the heart muscles have relaxed, and the heart chamber is filled with blood.
Dicrotic Notch
Occurs between the systole and subsequent diastole of the waveform.
Premature Ventricular Contraction (PVC)
Term used to define a ventricular contraction between two sinus cycles without a compensatory pause.
In other words, an irregular heartbeat when the heart contracts too soon.
