Four stages of the intervention process

A

Engagement and Assessment: focused on rapport-building, gathering data, identifying problems
Goal Identification and Intervention planning: plan of care is developed
Implementation: client works towards goals, SW implements selected interventions; assessment of progress happens throughout the stage
Termination and Evaluation: SW should begin this phase at the onset of services as client could abruptly terminate at any moment, follow- up procedures should be discussed

Steps in problem solving process

A

Assess, define, clarify: focus on current problem not the past, examine specific aspects of the problem including behaviors and needs of those involved
Determine possible solutions: encourage clients to refrain from limiting options, clients should gain practice in solution development
Examine options and select/implement a solution
