what is interstitial cystitis
A
chronic condition causing inflammation in the bladder, resulting in LUT symptoms and suprapubic pain

presentation of interstitial cystitis
A
more than 6 weeks off:
- suprapubic pain
- frequency
- urgency
symptoms may be worse during menstruation

investigations for interstitial cystitis
A
other causes need to be excluded:
- urinalysis
- swabs
- cystoscopy (hunner lesions, granulations)
- prostate exam

management of interstitial cystitis
A
supportive management: diet, smoking, pelvic floor exercises
medication: analgesia, antihistamines, anticholinergic, ….
hydrodistention
surgical
