Intelligence Flashcards
Split half reliability
Evaluation of 2 tests but splitting 1 test into 2 tests and comparing performance on first half with second half
Test-retest
Same people completing same test at different time
3 major types of validity
Predictive
Criterion
Construct
Predictive validity
Whether or not the scores on the test match with later outcomes by comparing performance at one point and comparing it on a later test
Criterion validity
Match scores on test with another measure - either previous measure or concurrent measure of same thing
Construct validity
Does the measure follow the underlying theory that represents the concept of what we are measuring.
Binet-Simon scale of intelligence
Test items for different age groups. Then were given a mental age based on the age normed items that they were able to pass
Stanford-Binet scale
Introducted the concept of IQ as a ratio of Mental Age/Chronical Age
Weschler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS)
Receive a score that represents overall IQ which is broken into verbal and performance IQ
General intelligence
Theory that theres a general intelligence that underlies all of our abilities e.g. if someone’s good at maths, they probs good at music. WAIS is an example of this
Multiple intelligence
Theory that we have multiple intelligence skills - you can be good at some and not at others
2 factor theory of intelligence
Spearman
Peoples performance on test was a function of 2 factors: G factor or S factor. G influences general performance
S refers to specific abilities on a task
What tests G (General performance) on 2 factor theory
Raven’s progressive matrices
