What are the layers of the skin?

What is the Clinical Connection for Massage in the Integumentary System?
- Increases blood flow to the area being touched.
- Increase in nutrients to the area being touched.
- Sebaceous gland activity increases with massage
- Frictions can help maintain elasticity of the subcutaneous layer that attaches the skin to deeper layers of the body.
- Can help break down scar tissue

What are three different types of skin cancer?
- Basal Cell (BCC) - most common
- Squamous Cell (SCC)
- Malignant Melanoma - most dangerous
What are the ABCD’s when looking for skin cancer?
A - Asymmetry, has an irregular shape.
B - Border, may be indistinct and blend into the surrounding skin, irregularity.
C - Color, multicolored including a mix of black and brown and even purple.
D - Diameter, larger then 6mm of the size of a pencil eraser.
E - Elevation, raised.
What are the functions of the Skin/Integumentary System?
- Regulates body temperature.
- Stores blood
- Protects body from external environment
- Excretes and absorbs substances
- Detects sensations
- Synthesizes vitamin D
