dry affected area and prevent contact with irritant
change wet diapers immediately, occlusive ointment (zinc oxide or petroleum), wash off feces with water and mild soap, expose skin to air
eczema (atopic dermatitis)
allergy
pruritic inflam of skin

relieve pruritus = colloid baths, oral antihistamines
hydrate skin = lubricate skin after bathing
reduce inflam = topical steroids
prevent/control secondary infection
eczema nc
identify and avoid triggers
nails short and clean, cover hands at night
long sleeves and pants
mild detergent, rinse thoroughly
avoid soaps, bubble bath, oil, powders
room humidifier
observe for infection
fam support and teaching - avoid hyperallergenic foods
avoid latex
impetigo
highly contagious - contact (no school for 24 post abx, good HH, dont share towels/linen, cover lesions to prevent spread)
strep or staph
honey colored crust
impetigo - tm
soften crust with moist soaks, remove crusts, topical bactericidal ointment
oral abx (cephalexin or PCN)
cut nails short, cover hands at night
cellulitis
fever, swell, heat and tender, malaise, regional lymphadenopathy
cellulitis tm
oral abx, rest and immobilize, warm + moist compress, hospital if joint or facial involvement
herpes simplex
burn, itch, vesicles, crust
herpes simplex tm
topical warm compress (burrow solution)
verruca (warts)
hpv
