Injury, Trauma, Classification Of Disease Flashcards
Classification system Topographical
By body region or system
Classification system
Anatomical
By organ or tissue
Classification system
Physiological
By function or effect
What does ICD stand for
International classification of disease
Examples of topographical
Cardiovascular, abdominal, thoracic
Anatomical example
Liver
Physiological examples (classification)
COPD/ angina
What is injury
Damage to the body caused by external force
What is trauma
An injury that has the potential to cause disability or death
What are the different inflammatory responses
Increased blood flow
Increases metabolic rate
Redness
Pain
Swelling
What is vasoconstriction
Vascular(blood vessels/veins) constricting
What does nsaids stand for
Non
Steroidal
Anti
Inflammaties
Drugs
What is ischaemia?
Lack of blood flowing in an area of the body
What are the different types of ischaemia
Ischaemic stroke (lack of blood flow to the brain by a blood clot)
Transient ischemic attack (TIA) (mini stroke where blood supply is cut of from the brain temporarily)
Deep vein thrombosis (blood clots form deep in the veins of the body)
What are the 4 phases of wound healing in response to injury
Inflammation- prevents further blood loss, heat, swelling, pain
Destruction-would is cleaned by white blood cells.
Proliferation- new tissue is regenerated and constructed, new blood vessels
Maturation- reduce the size of the would by contracting
What are the differences between the response to injury and response to trauma
Responding to trauma can cause organ function loss, done structure deformity, haemorrhaging, skin bruising whereas with injury its just inflammation and tissue regeneration
What are the 2 ways the body reacts to injury
The involuntary inflammation response
The proliferation phase
