Inclass Activity-Anti-Hypertensive DRUGS! Flashcards
How does a diuretic lower BP?
Makes you urinate and causes less blood volume=less BP
What is the difference between Propanol and Metoprolol?
Both Beta blockers, but Propanolol=non selective…Met=Beta-1 receptor blocker ONLY!
How do beta blockers reduce BP?
Block the sympathetic NS from acting on the heart=lessSV=less CO=less BP
How do ACE inhibitors lower BP?
block angiotensin I—->angiotensin II therefore no vasoconstriction, no ADH release, no Aldosterone, no thirst, no retention of H20=low BP
How does an angiotensin receptor blocker lower BP?
Angiotensin II is blocked from stimulating ADH release, aldosterone release, kidney sodium retention, and vasoconstriction
How does a DRI lower BP?
Direct Renin Inhibitor stops Angiotensinogen–>angiotensin I. This will reduce vasoconstriction, ADH release, Aldosterone release, and the kidney will not retain water.= lower BP
How does the oldie CCB work to lower BP?
Calcium Channel Blocker- direct correlation between [Ca2+] and myocardium force. Lowering Ca2+ will lower the force generated by the heart
What is the difference between the CCBs Amlodipine and Diltiazem?
Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker in the HEART only! diltiazem is a CCB in the entire body
