topical fuscidic acid
antiseptic cream
oral flucloxacillin
non pharmacological advice
do not touch or scratch lesions
hand hygiene
avoid sharing face towels and cutlery
how long do children need to stay off school?
all lesions have healed or antibiotics for 48 hours
What bacteria always causes bullous impetigo?
staph aureus
what can staph aureus produce?
epidermolytic toxins
break down proteins holding skin cells together
how does bullous impetigo occur?
toxins cause 1-2cm fluid filled vesicles to form
vesicles grow and then burst
form a golden crust
who is bullous impetigo more common in?
noenates and children under 2
