What are some consequences of democratic states on global order ?
- Using the liberal view democratic states are seen to be peaceful and predictable in their decision making which creates global stability and order
- Positive consequences they establish global governance which promotes complex interdependence this can be seen through the increase of democratic states such as new zeland , UK etc and the growth in
international trade and international bodies thus creating shared norms and
values - Democratic peace thesis - democracies tend not to go to war therefore contributing to the overall peace of the world because they support methods such as negotiation etc. this can be seen through the spread of democracy which has created peace zones such as the EU
What are the main characteristics of semi- democratic states
- They have appearances of democracy i.e elections and representation but elections may not be free , fair
- They may be limited to too or enable the dominanace of one party

- less predictable than democracies but more predictable than autocratic states suggesting that they ..
- However their unpredictability means that they may or may not behave like democracies.. ie Russia and its issues with Ukraine , russia is unpredictable which suggests that there are elements of rebel towards international law and peace

- More likely to go against international law and repress human rights ie Erdogan and its failed coup attempt of 2016
- They decrease global stability and global order
- Less predictable in there decision making

They have terrible consequences for there populations and a number of different consequences for global order

- The nature of government is not important because of the increased globalisation and complex interdependence which means that global governance , international law and the global market restricts state behaviour
- The nature of polarity and a states position in the international hierarchy has more impact than the nature of government

- Liberals argue that the nature of the state is an very important factor in ensuring global order and hence there faith in the idea that democracy will spread peace , order and stability

They believe that all states have the same interests and objectives , irrespective of their characteristics . their key interests are survival and security as well as the objective to apply and possess power for their own self interest not mutual benefit
