What are some of the immediate effects after vigorous exercise?
- Increase in temperature
- Increase in sweat
- Red coloured skin blood vessels near skin surface dilate
What is thermoregulation?
The ability to maintain core body temperature
What is an individuals resting heart rate?
70-80bpm
What do we mean my an increase in heart rate?
Resting heart rate 70-80 increase to 100-150 bpm
Heart contract more powerfully
What do we mean by Increase in depth and frequency of breathing?
Breathing rate rest 15 breather per minute can increase up to 50 per minute.
What are the short term affects after vigorous exercise?
- Tiredness and fatigue
- Lightheadedness
- Nausea (sick feeling)
- Aching muscles/delayed onset of muscles soreness -DOMS and
- Muscle cramps (sometimes)
What is nausea?
low blood sugar or drop in blood pressure (can be due to sweating heavily)
What is tiredness and fatigue caused by?
Muscles can no longer repeat their contractions The capability for physical work is diminished Oxygen supply is reduced / oxygen debt Glycogen store in the muscles is depleted Glycogen store in the liver is depleted Glucose in the blood is depleted Lactic acid in the muscles is produced Blood sugar level drops
