Components of fitness Flashcards
What is cardiovascular endurance?
Cardiovascular Endurance is the ability of the heart and lungs to supply oxygen to the working muscles.
What is strength?
Strength is the amount of force that a muscle or muscle group can apply against a resistance.
What are the different types of strengths?
- Dynamic Strength
- Maximal Strength
- Explosive strength
- Static Strength
What is dynamic strength?
The ability to apply a force repeatedly over a period of time.
What is maximal strength?
The greatest force that is possible in a single maximum contraction.
What is explosive strength?
This type of strength comes about when a burst of maximum effort is required.
What is static strength?
Static strength takes place when the muscle length stays the same. It is used to stabilise the body.
What is muscular endurance?
Muscular Endurance is the ability to repeatedly use muscles over a long time, without getting tired.
What is flexibility?
Flexibility is the amount of movement possible at a joint.
What is speed?
Speed is the rate at which someone is able to move , or to cover a distance in a given amount of time.
What is agility?
The ability to change direction quickly with control
What is balance?
Balance is the ability for an athlete to retain their centre of mass over their base of support without falling
What is coordination?
The ability to move two or more body parts at the same time
What is reaction time?
The time between the presentation of a stimulus and movement
What is power/explosive strength?
Power is a combination of strength and speed.
Power is important in explosive events like throwing and sprinting.
Power is vital to getting a good start in short races
