hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy: features Flashcards
1
Q
pathophysiology
A
the most common defect involves a mutation in the gene encoding B-myosin heavy chain protein or myosin-binding protein C.
Results in predominantly diastolic dysfunction
- left ventricle hypertrophy leads to decreased compliance which leads to decreased cardiac output.
2
Q
features of hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy
A
- often asymptomatic
- exertional dyspnoea
- angina
- syncope
- sudden death
- jerky pulse
ejection systolic murmur
3
Q
ECG findings
A
left ventricular hypertrophy
non-specific St segment and T-wave segment abnormalities
deep Q-waves
atrial fibrillation may occasionally be seen.
