Hypertension Drugs Flashcards
Diuretics
Decrease blood volume by increasing diuresis.
K+ saving diuretics
Can lead to garnecytomastoma or hyperpartism.
Ca channel inhibitors
Block calcium channels. Can be heart or vessel specific. Here vessel specific should be used
ACE inhibitors
Inhibit ace and prevent angiotensin II from forming. this leads to less water retention and decreased blood pressure. Cannot be used if the patient has renal artery stenosis.
Beta blockers
Not first line but recommended if patient has other conditions. Rebound phenomenon can lead to hypertensive crisis.
Name 6 drugs for hypertension
Diuretics, K+ saving diuretics, Ca inhibitors, ACE inhibitors, ARNI, beta blockers
ARBs
Block AT1 receptor leading to decreased water retention. Not given with ACE. SE: hyperkalemia, headache and nausea. Not given to those with renal artery stenosis.
