Hypertension Treatment: Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 < Step 4 >
Hypertension Treatment:
Step 1 - ACEI/ARB if < 55yrs - not for young women (CCB-CBA, BB-preg-Labetol). >55yrs = CCB
(If CCB not suitable (HF) TLD).
Step 2 - Add Thiazide Like Diuretic (Clortalidone/Indapamide) (on top off ACEI/ARB or CCB).
Step 3 - Add Diuretic to ACEI/ARB + CCB
Step 4 - If K = or < 4.5 mmol/L = LD Spironolactone
Step 4 - If K > 4.5 mmol/L = HD TLD or add Alpha/Beta Blocker
Hypertensive Pregnant Women:
Beta Blockers: Labetol
Hypertensive Women of Child Bearing Age:
Calcium Channel Blockers - not ACEI/ARB
Hypertensive Africain/Caribbean Individuals
Thiazide Like Diuretic or Calcium Channel Blockers
First Line Treatment: in Diabetics
Exceptions:
First Line Treatment: ACEI - Ramipril
