Heart Block Flashcards
Heart Block: Define:
Abnormal heart rhythm where the heart beats too slowly (bradycardia)
Electrical signals that tell the heart to contract are partially or totally blocked between the upper chambers (atria) and lower chambers (ventricles)
Types of Heart Block: (list, will define on next cards)
- First Degree heart block
- Second Degree heart block
2a. Second Degree - Type 1/Mobitz 1/Wenckebach
2b. Second Degree - Type 2/Mobitz 2 - Third Degree heart block
Define First Degree Heart Block:
First Degree Heart Block:
PR interval > 0.2 seconds
Define Second Degree Heart Block: Type 1/Mobitz 1/Wenckebach
Second Degree Heart Block: Type 1:
Progressive prolongation of the PR interval until a dropped beat occurs
Define Second Degree Heart Block: Type 2/Mobitz 2
Second Degree Heart Block: Type 2:
PR interval is constant, but the P wave is often not followed by a QRS complex
Define Third Degree Heart Block:
Complete Heart Block = 3rd degree
No association between P waves and QRS complexes
If develops after MI, it is a right coronary artery lesion.
Complete Heart Block Features:
Syncope Heart Failure Regular Bradycardia (30-50 bpm) Wide pulse pressure JVP: Cannon Waves Variable Intensity on S1
