Hyperkalemia Flashcards
1
Q
Hyperkalemia: def
A
Se Na > 5mM
2
Q
Hyperkalemia: cause
A
Principal cause:
- acidosis (remember like in metabolic acidosis, cells promote H+ exchange with K+ -> leads to hyperkalemia)
- renal insufficiency
3
Q
Hyperkalemia: ECG findings
A
Moderate hyperkalemia:
- peaked, symmetrical T waves
- AV block (prolonged PQ)
- missing p waves
Emergency:
- prolonged QRS
- ventricular arrhythmia, ventricular fibrillation
4
Q
Hyperkalemia: T
A
- depends on the cause
- Insulin + glucose (to prevent hypocalcemia)
