A
Acute or chronic tubulointerstitial nephritis -> are diseases resulting in primary injury to renal tubules and interstitium -> results in decreased renal function

Acute tubulointerstitial nephritis: causes
A
- allergic drug reactions (70-90%), ex: antibiotics, NSAIDs
- infections

Acute tubulointerstitial nephritis: signs and symptoms
A
- can be asymptomatics
- can result in systemic symptoms: fever, nausea, vomiting, lack of appetite etc…
- can cause flank pain, dysuria, hematuria, rash

- physical examination
- blood test -> can show eosinophilia
- urinalysis -> eosinophiluria, hematuria, sterile pyuria, proteinuria
To confirm the diagnosis -> kidney biopsy
- interstitial edema and inflammatory infiltrates, blood vessels and glomeruli not affected
