Homeostasis Flashcards
What is homeostasis?
It’s a set of processes by which the body maintains a constant internal environment
What is the internal environment?
Interstitial fluid
Blood plasma
What is interstitial fluid?
This is fluid that leaves blood capillaries to bathe the cells, bring oxygen and nutrients.
What is blood plasma?
Fluid surrounding the blood cells
What factors need to be regulated in the internal environment?
Temperature
Hydration
PH
Energy- nutrients and oxygen
What do we need within the body for homeostasis to be achieved?
Core body temperature Blood pressure Blood gases PH Glucose Calcium ions Blood volume Sodium ions
What is the feedback loop responsible for?
It is a response the body has to changed in the internal environment.
It is a autonomic response and allows the internal environment back to normal.
What is the feedback loop?
Stimuli/ change occurs
Response - detects stimuli and sends signal
Controller- interprets signal
Effector- creates an effect or response according to the signal
