Homeostasis Flashcards
Define homeostasis
Regulation of the internal conditions of a cell or organism to maintain optimum conditions for function, in response to internal and external changes
What are the 5 core components that all the body systems use to maintain the internal environment
Stimulus, receptors, control centre, effectors, response.
What are the 2 general stages in negative feedback
If the level of something rises, control system reduces it again.
If the level of something falls, control system raise it again
What is the impact of failure of homeostasis
Failure to regulate body temperature can result in hypothermia and heat stroke
Failure to regulate blood sugar can lead to hypoglycaemia for example in diabetes
