  • world economy had improved and countries were buying Canadian goods
  • demand for Canadian wheat reached record levels in 1920
  • domestic and industrial demand for iron ore, nickel and zinc caused a mining boom

Canadian pulp and paper industry expanded rapidly during 1920

  • demand was huge in American market
  • Canada exported more pulpwood and news print than the rest of the world combined

    • > us made farm machinery was taxed so that it was more expensive than Canadian made farm machinery
