High Rise Buildings Flashcards
1
Q
Supplying High-Rise Standpipe System
A
- At least 2 Engines
- Supply at least 2 siamese
- If only 1 siamese, supply 1st floor outlet to augment
- ECC’s must coordinate pressures
- Rule of thumb: Separate Engine supply system for each hand line in operation
- Floors 1-10 = 150psi
- Increase by 50psi every ten floors (e.g. 11-20 = 200psi, etc.)
2
Q
High Pressure Pumping
A
- Greater than 250psi
- Only a Chief officer can order
- Special 3” Hi-Pressure hose must be used
- Fittings are white and noticeably heavier
- Connect lines to outlet opposite pump panel
- Safety zones marked off at 50 foot intervals around working Engines, on each side of the supply line to the siamese
- Supply line to siamese/standpipe secured w/ utility rope to substantial object
- Unused gated inlets/outlets closed & capped
- (2) ECC’s: 1 to pump/1 for radio communications
3
Q
High-Pressure Engine - 3rd Stage
A
“357” 3rd stage can supply 500gpm at 700psi
(higher pressure than volume)
-Only IC (Chief Officer) can order
-May be necessary for fire above 50th floor or when water supply is unsatisfactory
-ONLY ONE 3” High-Pressure supply line into siamese may be used
