What influenced Henry to go to war?
1/Courtiers - for pro-war advisors wanted to cause excitement. Warham and Fox (his fathers advisors) did not want war.
2/Catherine of Aragon - To divide French troops to benefit Ferdinand.
Why was the war initially a failure for Henry?
April 1512 - Declared War + sent troops under Marquis of Dorset with Spanish landing at Bayonne. Let down by Ferdinand as he used it to take control of Navarre. Within few months troops recalled.
April 1513 - Henry’s navy defeated at Brest, France.
Why did the war start to appear a success?
June 1513 - 30,000 men led by Henry landed in Calais. Marched towards Flanders to help HRE Maxmillian capture Theroanne.
August 1513 - Battle of the Spurs - French defeated + Theroanne fell and Henry captured Tournai.
September 1513 - Battle of Flodden - James IV led troops + Catherine defeated Scotts. James and 10,000 Scots killed.
August 1514 - Peace established. Henry keep territory, France to pay arrears and Mary was to marry King of France - Louis XII

1/ Let down by Ferdinand
2/ Still experienced later problems with Scotland
