1487- Maximilian and Ferdinand agreed to send troops to Brittany along with Henry.

Maximilian and Ferdinand both pulled out of this agreement in 1488.

Why was 1491 a significant year for France/Brittany issues?
Anne of Brittany and King Charles of France were married in December. France were still trying to absorb Brittany. Henry called parliament to raise a subsidy for 12,000 men in order to protect Brittany.

When and what was the Treaty of Medina Del Campo?
1489- Treaty with Spain that promised mutual assistance, marriage between Arthur and Catherine of Aragon, no harbouring of rebels (looking at you, Warbeck).
Why was the Treaty of Medina Del Campo a bit iffy?
Henry wanted a dowry from Ferdinand of 400,000 crowns for Catherine of Aragon, but only received 200,000. Ferdinand also did not assist with Brittany. He didn’t harbour Warbeck, though, so that was good.
When were Catherine and Arthur married?
1501
When did Arthur die and what did they have to get in order to marry Catherine to his brother?
1502, Papal dispensation. Henry and Catherine betrothed in 1503 by the way.
When did the Spanish Succession crisis begin and why?
1504- Isabella of Castille (Ferdinand’s wife) died.
What mistakes did Henry make during the succession crisis in Spain?
He backed Philip of Burgundy in the crisis. He also tried to retract Catherine and Henry’s betrothal by saying it was invalid.
Who was Philip of Burgundy and when did he die?
1506, Ferdinand’s brother.
Why were Burgundy an issue between 1486 and 1489?
They sheltered Lovell in 1486, then supported Simnel in 1487.
When did Philip take over from Margaret of Burgundy and what did he do immediately?

Intercursus Magnus- It started trade between them again and forced Burgundy to stop harbouring rebels.
What and when was the Treaty of Windsor?
1506- Secured the Intercursus Malus. It was between Burgundy and England. It was signed because Philip sailed past England and was shipwrecked. As he was stuck in England, he had to sign it.
What were the terms of the Intercursus Malus?
Henry got to keep rival Duke of Suffolk in England (he had a stronger claim to the throne than Henry). England also got to pay low taxes on trade, while Burgundy had to pay high tax when trading together.
Why did the Treaty of Windsor not happen in the end?
Philip died in 1506 and Ferdinand won the succession crisis.
When did Burgundy join the League of Cambrai

What were the terms of the Treaty of Etaples?
Henry had to demilitarise Brittany, but he got an annual pension of £5,000. France couldn’t harbour any more rebels.
