Established that local ratepayers should pay tax for the relief of their own poor
What is the difference between the deserving and undeserving poor?
Deserving- those seeking employment, or those too old, too young, or too ill to work
Undeserving- Those who could work but didn’t or wouldn’t
What did the Poor Law Act of 1576 do?
attempted to create a national system of poor relief, administered and funded locally . Towns had to make provisions for their deserving poor
What did the Poor Law of 1601 do?
Made it the responsibility of the parish to raise funds and administer poor relief. They were supposed to offer relief to the impotent poor, find work for the able-bodied and apprenticeships for poor children. This was supervised by JPs

1563- secured land for arable farming.

1597- whipping was the official punishment

They were put up in all cities for those refusing to work. After 1576, anyone refusing to work for an agreed rate could be whipped
How was the trickle down society having an effect? Was it?
A new Tudor gentleman kind of emerged, but cock fighting, gambling, smoking and superstition was still popular. It didn’t trickle down to the majority

1563- A maximum wage was introduced, but not a minimum in the hopes of combatting inflation. All those able were obliged to seek work
