Hematopoiesis Flashcards
can self-renew
multipotent as it can give rise to all cells of the blood and megakaryocytes
Hematopoietic Stem Cell
Granulocytes/Erythrocytes/Monocytes/Megakaryocytes = GEMM
Myeloid lineage progenitors
B and T lymphocytes and natural killer cells
Lymphoid lineage progenitors
regions in b marrow that contain HSC, lineage progenitors, blasts, supportive stromal cells where blood cell production takes place
located close to venous sinusoids which allows cells to enter and leave b marrow quickly
Hematopoietic Cords
made up of clusters of developing blood cells, stromal cells, paracrine and endocrine factors as well as ECM
Hematopoietic Niches
by growth factors, cytokines, colony stimulating factors produced by stromal cells in b marrow, (Stem Cell Factor)
by hormones produced in another organ (EPO)
