Circulatory System Flashcards
simple sqaumous–>cubiodal ep.; pericytes present, internal elastic lamina
Tunica Intima
Variable amount/type of CT (collagenous/elastic tissue); smooth muscle cells, elastic fibers
Tunica Media
contain Vasa Vasrum (supply walls of large vessels), smooth muscle cells(long.)
Tunica Adventia
largest, TI=prominent collagenous lamina propria; TM=thick, prominent with elastic fibers; TA = Vasa Vasorum
Elastic Arteries
TI=elastic fibers and folds when smooth muscle is contracted; TM=smooth muscle;TA=collagenous CT
Muscular Arteries
TI=endothelium, BM, little LP; TM=1-3 layers of smooth muscle; TA = very little loose CT
Regulate BP and flow into capillary beds
Arterioles
site of gas exchange, TUNICA INTIMA; pericytes wrap around endothelium and both are surrounded by BM
Capillaries
function @ site of highly regulated exchange
TJ’s between ep. cells
Prominent in brain/lungs
Continous Capillaries
function @ site of permissive exchange exchange via small gaps prom. in kidney, intestines, endocrine glands
Fenestrated Capiallaries
function @ site of free exchange free exchange of macro molecules and cells through large gaps Prom. in bone, liver, spleen
Sinusoidal Capillaries
post-capillary
larger diameter compared to arterioles
major site of leukocytes diapedias
Venules
folds of tunica intima push into lumen to form valves and facilitate movement of blood to heart
prominent TA, collagenous CT
Small/Medium Veins
prominent fibroelastic TA
arranged smooth muscle
Large Veins
