Heart- Pulmonary Artery Flashcards
Is the pulmonary artery oxygenated or deoxygenated?
deoxygenated
(poor oxygen)
What atria does the pulmonary vein supply?
high oxygenation and allow the aorta to supply the body with oxygen
What ventricle does the pulmonary artery take blood away from?
right side
towards the lungs
What is the route of the pulmonary arteries?
Right ventricle -> pulmonary trunk -> right and left pulmonary arteries
What is the purpose of the pulmonary arteries?
deliver deoxygenated blood to the respective lung
What is the route of the pulmonary veins?
Lung capillaries -> 4 pulmonary veins (2 from each lung) -> left atrium
What is the purpose of the pulmonary veins?
deliver oxygenated blood to the left ventricle which will distribute it to the body
Name major blood vessels A-E
What are the 2 pulmonary veins called? (right lung)
A = right superior pulmonary vein
B = right inferior pulmonary vein
same for left lung
Where is the right superior pulmonary vein in relation to the pulmonary artery?
The right superior pulmonary vein passes in front of and a tad below the pulmonary artery at the root of the lung
Where is the right inferior vein?
the inferior pulmonary vein is situated at the lowest part of the lung hilum.
How do the pulmonary veins travel in relation to the heart?
the right pulmonary veins pass behind the right atrium and superior vena cava return, and the left pulmonary veins pass in front of the descending thoracic aorta
