A

EVACUATE– individuals will likely self evacuate
-removal to fresh air WILL HAVE POSITIVE RESULTS

HOWEVER

some instances - removing occupants through toxic atmosphere may actually cause more harm than good…SHELTER IN PLACE may be appropriate

- transmit appropriate 10-80 code

  • IMMEDIATELY REQUEST NYPD
  • TRANSMIT 10-80 CODE
  • preliminary recon
  • Shut down HVAc IF NECESSARY

IF patient reports that they are CONTAMINATED ADN THEY have visible powder or other substance on their skin or clothing, member shall:

A
  • ask patient to REMOVE outer clothing
  • provide patient with disposable garment or sheet
  • bag patients clothing in CLEAR PLASTIC BAG and leave with competent authority
  • assess, treat, transport patient as appropriate

patients who are CRITICAL/UNSTABLE should receive EMERGENCY DECON and be treated and transported IMMEDIATELY
-notify receiving hospitals through EMD that they will be receiving a patient with possible exposure/contamination to unknown substance
