HANDY’S ORGANISATIONAL CULTURES Flashcards
What is Handy’s cultural typorgraphy
Handy’s cultural typography identifies four different types of culture that are influenced by the assumptions about where the power comes from in an organisation.
What are the 4 different types of culture
There are 4 different types of culture:
A role culture assumes that power in an organisation is determined by rank and is passed down from the top of an organisation.
Associated with: tall structures and bureaucracy (bureaucracy = a complex organisation that has multilayered systems and processes).
A task culture assumes that power in an organisation is determined by the expertise and ability to perform a certain task or project to its successful completion.
Associated with flat cultures
A power culture assumes that power in an organisation is held by one expert whose role it is to make decisions and determine organisational strategy.
Associated with: A strong charismatic leadership
A person culture assumes that individuals all have different strengths, and the role of the organisation is to enable employees to demonstrate their abilities.
