Features of a group (4)
- Interaction between group members- way that team members work together to complete a task.
- A collective identity- wearing the same kit, team members will feel a strong affiliation and a sense of pride. Affiliation helps give motivation and a sense of belonging to the team.
- Shared objectives or a common goal- prospect of achieving success is what often keeps players in the team and working together.
- Communication- talk to each other (verbally) to help with interaction and non-verbally like coded plays eg. Line out in rugby.

Storming stage definition
- Infighting and conflict as people establish roles/positions
- Alliances form
- Confrontation with leaders
Norming stage def
- Cooperation - conflicts resolved
- Team unifies and cooperates focusing on achieving goals
- Norms accepted
Performing stage def
- Common goals, success, team support each other and understand their roles
- respect for members + leaders high
- Motivation + enjoyment is high
How long for different teams
Time taken at each stage changes
Settled teams would accept players faster
England football team doesn’t seem to bond - underperforms
Irish rugby team bonds exceptionally well- always performs well above its resources
