Is a number of people or things that are located, gathered or classed together
Team
More than the individual and work together to achieve a goal
What are the common characteristics of a group (SICC)
Shared goal or purpose
Interaction
Collective identity
Communication
Shared goals/purpose
Prospect of achieving success is often what keeps players in the team and working for each other
Interaction
Operate their own role in team well and link it to theirs in the team working together to complete a task

Recognised easily usually wearing same colour kit etc
Communication
Individual players should talk to each other and communicate non-verbally
What are the 4 stages of Tuckman’s model of group formation
1= Forming
2= Storming
3= Norming
4= Performing
Forming
- Short stage
- Get to know each other
- Will you fit in?
- Assessment made on strengths of the individual compared to strengths of others in the group
Storming
- Potential conflict for positions
- Coach/captain needs to intervene
- Act quickly to ensure players accept an alternative
Norming
- Once conflicts have been resolved the team begins to settle down
- Cooperate with the intention of achieving their goals
- Groups standards are accepted and cohesion occurs
Performing
- All players are interactive and working together to achieve their goals
- Team supports each other and understand their role in the team
