Group 7 Flashcards
What are elements in group 1 known as
Alkali metals
How many electrons do they have in they’re outer shell
1
What happens to the boiling and melting points as you go down the grouo
They decrease
What happens to the reactivity as you how down the group
It increases
Why do they become more reactive as you go down the group
This is because the outer electron gets further away from influence of the nucleus so it can be lost more easily
Why are alkali metals tired under oil
Because they react very vigorously with oxygen and water ,including moisture in the air
What is formed when an alkali metal reacts with water
A metal hydroxide is formed and hydrogen gas is given off
What type of density do group one metals have
Low,
What are examples of group one metals that have a lower density than water
Lithium,sodium,and potassium
What happens when a metal hydroxide is dissolved in water
An alkaline solution is produced
What do alkali metals react with to form ionic compunds
Non metals
