oral, anal, vagina , doesnt require penetration as it’s found in discharge so can be contaminated with the hand

women during pregnancy
male symptoms of gonorrhoea
urethritis green creamy dishcarge typlalliy morning drop dysuria pain testicles proctitis if spread by anal intercourse
female sypmtoms of gonorrhoea
80% are assymtomatic until the disease advances creamy green like pus itchy vulva lower abdominal pain indicative of PID pharyngitis during cunnilingus
complications
disseminated gonoccocal infection
urethral scarring in men
ectopic pregnancy in women
PID
gonococcal meningitis
purulent arthritis typically in the knee
diagnosis
gram stain
urine specimens
swab from cervix or urethra that’s incubated for 2 days to provide antibiotic spectrum
what other diseases shold be checked alongside gonorrhoea
chlamydia
HIV
syphillis
rx
500mg ceftriaxone
IM
1g azithromycin for chlamydia
follow up
after completion of rx with culture
how is congenital gonorrhoea acquires
intrapartum (during delivery)
causing
ophthalmia neonatorum
dissemnitated neonatal gonorrhoea
ophthalmia neonatorum symptoms
evere conjunctivitis and keratitis usually in the first 48 hours of life. There may be purulent discharge. If
rx of opthalmia neonatorum
opical (e.g. chloramphenicol 0.5% eye drops) and intramuscular benzylpenicillin.
