Gentics, Evolution, Behavior Flashcards
Genetics
The mechanisms and phenomena of heredity and the laws that determine inherited traits.
Monozygotic Twins
Single eggs the splits into half (genetically identical)
Dizygotic Twins
Two separate fertilized eggs (fraternal twins)
Chromosomes
a strand or filament composed of nucleic acid (mainly DNA in humans) and proteins (see chromatin) that carries the genetic, or hereditary, traits of an individual.
Twin Studies
a special type of epidemiological study designed to measure the contribution of genetics, as opposed to the environment, to a given trait.
Epigenetics
The study of the molecular mechanisms by which environments can influence genetic expression
Evolutionary Psychology
The study of behavior, thought, and feeling as viewed through the lens of evolutionary biology.
Genes (Environmental Interaction)
Genes are self-regulating - they react to the environment.
- Genes and experiences interact.
Sensation
the process of the sensory organs transforming physical energy into neurological impulses the brain interprets as the five senses of vision, smell, taste, touch, and hearing.
Perception
The process or result of becoming aware of objects, relationships, and events by means of the senses, including such activities as recognizing, observing, and discriminating.
Transduction
Conversion of one form of energy into another
Absolute Threshold
he smallest level of energy required by an external stimulus to be detectable by the human senses, including vision, hearing, taste, smell and touch
