Social identity theory
a large part of our self-concept is based on our membership in certain social groups
Prejudice
an unjustifiable and usually negative attitude toward a group and its members
stereotypes
generalized beliefs about a group of people
discrimination
acting in negative and unjustifiable ways toward members of the group
macroaggressions
overt blatant discrimination
microaggressions
subtle discrimination often not done with the express purpose of discrimination
Explicit prejudice
prejudice that we know about and recognize
Implicit prejudice
Prejudice that we are not always consciously aware of but that still impacts our behavior

Just World Phenomenon
Wanting to believe that the world is fair and, therefore, people get what they deserve
Frustration-aggression principle
frustration creates anger, anger creates agression
In-group bias
tendency to favor and support individuals who belong to groups we identify with
Out-group bias
tendency to belittle or dislike members of groups that we don’t identify with
