General ANS Flashcards
What are the 6 basic rules of the ANS?
- 3 structures innervated
- Motor only (GVE)
- 2 Neurons
- 2 Divisions
- Functions
- Distribution
How many spinal nerves, grey rami, and white rami are there?
- White Rami: 14 pairs
- Spinal Nerves: 31 pairs
- Grey Rami: 31 pairs
What structures are innervated by the ANS?
- Glands
- Cardiac Muscle
- Smooth Muscle
What is a Stellate/Cervicothoracic Ganglion?
Fusion of Ganglion of T1 and Inferior Cervical Ganglion
What is the exception to the general rule of paravertebral ganglia in the sympathetics?
The abdominal organs are innervated by pre-vertebral ganglia
What is the Ganglion Impar and where is it located?
The terminal ganglion of the paravertebral chain of ganglia (unpaired) at the level of S1
Which Spinal Nerves compose the Sympathetic Nervous System?
T1-L2
Which Spinal and Cranial Nerves compose the Parasympathetic Nervous System?
- Cranial Nerves: III, VII, IX, and X
- Spinal Nerves: S2-S4
What is the only spinal nerve the runs internally?
The Phrenic Nerve
What nerve types do Cranial Nerves Lack? What is the exception?
- Cranial Nerves lack both Sympathetics and Parasympathetics
- Cranial Nerves 3, 7, 9, and 10 have Parasympathetic fibers (GVE and GVA)
Where are GVAs located?
They follow the path of the GVEs of the Sympathetics and Parasympathetics
What Fiber Types do Peripheral Motor Nerves have?
All 4 Fiber Types
What Fiber Types do Peripheral Sensory Nerves have?
- GSA, GVE, GVA
- They do NOT have GSEs
Where does the Phrenic Nerve run through the thorax?
In the Fibrous Pericardium, Anterior to the root of the lung
Where is the lateral horn found and what types of fibers are contained in it?
- T1-L2
- Sympathetic, preganglionic GVE fibers
