Brachial Plexus Flashcards
Musculocutaneous Nerve
Pierces Coracobrachialis
Axillary Nerve
Leaves Axilla First
Deltoid and Teres Minor
Radial Nerve
Arm: Spirals around humerus in a medial to lateral fashion posteriorly
Elbow: Deep to brachioradialis, anterior to lateral epicondyle
Splits to superficial branch of the radial nerve and deep branch of the radial nerve.
Superficial branch spirals around brachioradialis tendon and goes to the hand for sensation.
Deep branch pierces the supinator then goes to innervate all of the posterior forearm
Ulnar Nerve
Arm: Medial biccipital groove proximally then between the medial head and the long head of the triceps
Elbow: between the medial epicondyle and the olecranon process
Forearm: between flexor carpi ulnaris and ulnar 1/2 of flexor Digitorum Profundus
Wrist: lateral to flexor carpi ulnaris to ulnar tunnel
Hand, motor and sensory
Median Nerve
Arm: Medial biccipital groove following brachial artery and veins
Elbow: in cubical fossa, halfway between biceps tendon and medial epicondyle
Forearm: between Digitorum muscles (FDP and FDS)
Wrist: Deep to Pollicis Longus and superficial to flexor digitorum superficialis to carpal tunnel
To hand for sensation (5/18)
Pectoral Nerve
Pectoralis Major and Pectoralis Minor
Long Thoracic Nerve
Serratus Anterior
What is the Trapezius innervated by?
Cranial Nerve XI and Ventral Rami of C3 and C4 (Cervical Plexus)
Thoracodorsal Nerve
Latissimus Dorsi
What innervates the Levator Scapulae and Rhomboids?
Brachial Plexus
Subscapular Nerve
Teres Major and Subscapularis
What does the Musculocutaneous Nerve Innervate?
Anterior Compartment of Arm
What does the Median Nerve Innervate?
- 3 Thenars (APB, FPB, and OP)
- 2 Lateral Lumbricals
- Anterior Compartment of Forearm except Flexor Carpi Ulnaris and 1/2 of Flexor Digitorum Profundus (ulnar/medial 2 tendons)
What does the Ulnar Nerve Innervate?
- Flexor Carpi Ulnaris
- 1/2 of FDP (ulnar/medial 2 tendons)
- Anterior Compartment of Hand except 3 Thenars (APB, FPB, and OP) and 2 Lateral Lumbricals
What does the Radial Nerve Innervate?
Posterior Compartment of Arm and Forearm
