functional dyspepsia diagnostic criteria?
one or more of the following:
-bothersome postprandial fullness
-bothersome early satiety
-bothersome epigastric pain
AND
no evidence of structural disease that is likely to explain the symptoms.
what is dyspepsia?
indigestion
subclassifications of functional dyspepsia?
post prandial distress syndrome (PDS)
epigastric pain syndrome (EPS)
PDS features?
fullness and satiety but no pain
gastric dysmotility or abnormal accommodation
EPS features?
pain and burning - visceral hypersensitivity
pathophysiology of functional dyspepsia?
gastroduodenal motor and sensory dysfunction, as well as impaired mucosal integrity, low grade immune activation, and dysregulation of the gut-brain axis
can be triggered by acute infection
associated with anxiety and depression
treatment?
