scientific management
Efficiency is the goal-not employee satisfaction
“Planning” and “doing” are separated
managers are planners, workers are managers tools for actions(doers)
How does scientific management work?
identify most efficient worker, all behaviors that employee does, contingently pay/reinforce all other workers for actions that are similar to most efficient worker
Piece-rate pay system
workers get paid according to output rather than the amount of time they spend working
Fixed-ratio schedule of reinforcement
ratio schedule of reinforcement-under scientific management principles
Implemented by Henry Ford
noted the company did well under this management strat, however mixed effects for workers…receive high amounts of contingent pay, also burned out easily… may be unforeseen psychological repercussions to trying to control the behaviors of others
